DESCRIPTION:
The workshop aims to bring together philosophers and psychologists working on issues related to reasoning\, rationality\, and norms. We are especially interested in the normative dimensions of psychological models of reasoning\, but we also intend to cover more general topics\, such as the nature of rationality\, the relation between logic and reasoning\, the normativity of inductive reasoning\, or the adaptive character of human thinking.
\n
Workshop Program:
\n
Day 1&nbsp\; &nbsp\; Thursday | 15.06.23
\n
10:00 - 10:15 Opening
\n
10:15 - 11:15&nbsp\; Nicole Cruz (Innsbruck)&nbsp\;"What do people mean by 'If there is not beer then there is wine'?"
\n
11:15 - 11:30 [break]
\n
11:30 - 12:30 &nbsp\;Karolina Krzyzanowska (Amsterdam) TBA
\n
12:30 - 14:00 &nbsp\;[90 min. lunch]
\n
14:00 - 15:00 Corina&nbsp\;Str&ouml\;&szlig\;ner (RUB) "Normative\, descriptive and hybrid approaches to reasoning"
\n
15:00 - 15:15 [break]
\n
15:15 - 16:15 &nbsp\;Javier Belastegui (MCMP\, LMU) "How to construct your concepts: conceptual reasoning based on similarity judgements"
\n
16:15 - 16:30 [break]
\n
16:30 - 17:30 Borut Trpin (MCMP\, LMU) "Models of Explanatory Power: A Coherentist Appraisal"
\n
17:30 - 17:45 [break]
\n
17:45 - 18:45 David Papineau (King's College) "Emotions\, Decisions and Norms of Knowledge"
\n
Day 2 &nbsp\; &nbsp\;Friday | 16.06.23
\n
10:00 - 11:00 Gerhard Schurz (HHU) "The Principle of Total Evidence: Between Epistemic Optimality and Political Conflict"
\n
11:00 - 11:15&nbsp\; [break]
\n
11:15 - 12:15 De Benedetto (RUB) &amp\; Osta-V&eacute\;lez (HHU)&nbsp\;"The normative dimension of logical modeling"
\n
12:15 - 13:30 [75 min. lunch]
\n
13:30 - 14:30 &nbsp\;Michal Hladky (Geneva) "All that glitters is not a deduction: What normativity for rational reconstructions?"
\n
14:30 - 14:45 &nbsp\;[break]
\n
14:45 - 15:45 Vincenzo Crupi (Turin) "Norms vs. evidence in reasoning research"
\n
15:45 - 16:00 &nbsp\;[break]
\n
16:00 - 17:00 Philipp Koralus (Oxford) "A question-based theory of human reason and benchmark for ChatGPT"
