DESCRIPTION:<p>We are pleased to announce the second annual Rice University of Houston Graduate Student Conference to be held November 17-18\, 2023.&nbsp\; The conference&rsquo\;s theme is<strong> &ldquo\;Mind\, Value\, and Moral Psychology.</strong>&rdquo\; &nbsp\; John Doris is our keynote speaker.&nbsp\; The conference fills a gap between value theory\, philosophy of mind\, and moral psychology. But in general\, any article in one of these realms is welcome.&nbsp\; Papers topics include\, but are not limited to:</p>\n<p>Virtue<br>-Empirical research and virtue<br>-Philosophy of specific virtues<br><br>Mind and Value<br>-Intersection of philosophy of mind and moral psychology<br>-Consciousness and ethics<br><br>Moral Motivation<br>-How are we motivated?<br>-What is praiseworthy moral motivation?<br><br>Philosophy of Emotion<br>-Theories of Emotion<br>-Philosophy of Specific Emotions<br>-The role of suffering in the moral life<br><br>Moral Responsibility<br>-Conditions for responsibility<br>-Freewill<br>-Responsibility and reactive attitudes<br><br>&nbsp\;Moral Psychology in the History of Philosophy<br>-Ancient\, Medieval\, and Early Modern philosophers and moral psychology<br><br>Please send an abstract of no more than 500 words to: <strong><a>rice.uh.grad@gmail.com</a></strong></p>\n<p>The main paper should be no more than 4000 words and suitable for a 20-25 min presentation. All the papers are peer-reviewed. The first day will end up with a roundtable: philosophers and psychologists will discuss a subject in moral psychology.&nbsp\; Breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner will be provided for all speakers and commentators.</p>
