Kant's doctrine of the highest good serves as the basis for Kant's argument for the postulates of pure practical reason\, according to which moral agents are morally justified in believing in God\, freedom and the immortality of the soul.  \;Apart from that\, it lies at the very centre of various other parts of Kant's philosophy\, e.g.\, his views on rational religion\, on the moral agent as the final end of nature and on the historical progress of mankind.  \;To be sure\, the different treatments of the highest good in Kant's critical work have caused a great deal of puzzlement on the part of his readers.  \;Besides the argument for the postulates\, recent debates have focused on the relation of the highest good to moral action\, the epistemic mode of moral belief\, the antinomy of pure practical reason\, and the idea of the primacy of practical reason.  \;The aim of the conference is to bring together leading Kant scholars in the field and to re-evaluate Kant's doctrine of the highest good from a philosophical perspective.

The conference will be hosted by the DFG Research Project "Der Begriff des hö\;chsten Guts in Kants Philosophie&rdquo\;
