DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Talk and Submissions: </strong>The Trump Era is marked by polarization\, distrust\, and fear.&nbsp\; This seems to be a dark moment for democracy in the U.S. and abroad.&nbsp\; But history reminds us that democracy is unstable and that the promise of enlightenment is fragile.&nbsp\; In this talk\, Andrew Fiala will consider the problem of polarization\, the critique of democracy\, and some possible solutions\, while drawing on sources in the history of philosophy.</p>\n<p>We welcome all paper submissions related to political polarization and political trust.</p>\n<p><strong>Paper Submission: </strong>We invite the submission of abstracts relevant to the topic of this year&rsquo\;s workshop&mdash\;the ethics of social media discourse. Abstracts should be between 300 and 500 words\, and should be prepared for blind review. Please send your abstract in an acceptable format (acceptable formats: .pdf\, .doc\, .docx\, .rtf) as an attachment to the following email address:&nbsp\;gradphilworkshop@bgsu.edu.</p>\n<p>Please use the following as your subject line: &ldquo\;BGSU Workshop [your last name].&rdquo\; In the body of the e-mail\, please include the following information:&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>1. Statement granting permission to distribute your paper to graduate students serving on the workshop committee and to commentators&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>Commentators&nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p>Each paper will have a commentator. Upon acceptance\, a full paper will be required to be able to have comments given to them. Those who are not submitting a paper\, but are interested in commenting should send an email to&nbsp\;gradphilworkshop@bgsu.edu&nbsp\;detailing availability and areas of interest.
