DESCRIPTION:
Florida State University&rsquo\;s chapter of the Minorities and Philosophy Club invites you to its Annual Graduate Philosophy Conference to be held on 3/22/2024.
\n
We are one of over 180 chapters of MAP (http://www.mapforthegap.com/). The aim of our organization is to address structural injustices in academic philosophy and to remove barriers that impede participation in academic philosophy for members of marginalized groups. Towards this end\, this conference is an opportunity both for graduate students from marginalized backgrounds and those addressing issues of marginalization in philosophy to present their work.
\n
Our keynote speaker this year will be Lewis Gordon\, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Global Affairs and Head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Connecticut. He is also Honorary President of the Global Center for Advanced Studies and Distinguished Scholar at The Most Honourable PJ Patterson Centre for Africa-Caribbean Advocacy at The University of the West Indies\, Mona. He is the author of many books\, including\, most recently\, Freedom\, Justice\, and Decolonization (Routledge\, 2021)\; Fear of Black Consciousness (Farrar\, Straus and Giroux\, and Penguin-UK 2022)\; and Black Existentialism and Decolonizing Knowledge: Writings of Lewis R. Gordon\, edited by Rozena Maart and Sayan Dey (Bloomsbury\, 2023). His accolades include the 2022 Eminent Scholar Award from the Global Development Studies division of the International Studies Association.
\n
Please see the CFA page for information about submissions.
\n
Any questions or concerns should be directed to Dylan Masterson at dcm19@fsu.edu
