DESCRIPTION:
&ndash\;&ndash\;&ndash\;&ndash\; &nbsp\;
Workshop of the DFG Emmy-Noether Project &lsquo\;A Sensible World&rsquo\;
The Phenomenology of Secondary Qualities
Humboldt-Universit&auml\;t zu Berlin\, 16-17 November 2023 &nbsp\;

This workshop aims to explore the topic of the phenomenology of secondary qualities. It will address questions about the distinction between primary and secondary qualities\, the qualitative nature of sensory content\, the objectivity of appearances\, and the distinction between appearing vs. constant sensory qualities\, among others. The specificity of the workshop is that it will bring together scholars specialized either in the history of philosophy\, more precisely in early phenomenology\, and in contemporary analytic philosophy. These two traditions both developed fine-grained theories on secondary qualities\, but are too rarely put in dialogue\, what this workshop will contribute to change. &nbsp\; &nbsp\;

Programme&nbsp\;&nbsp\;

Thursday\, 16 November 2023
14:00:&nbsp\;Welcoming words
14:15-15:45 Clare Mac Cumhaill&nbsp\;(Durham University)
Revisiting Strawson&rsquo\;s Mastersound (with Help from Brentano)
16:00-17:30&nbsp\;Lina de Boer&nbsp\;(HU Berlin)
Genetic Phenomenology and the Distinction between Primary and Secondary Qualities

Friday\, 17 November 2023
9:15-10:45&nbsp\;Alessandro Salice&nbsp\;(University College Cork) and&nbsp\;Hamid Taieb&nbsp\;(HU Berlin)
Perspectives\, Looks\, and Realist Phenomenology
11:00-12:30 Twan Stiekel&nbsp\;(HU Berlin)
The Phenomenology of Mind-Independence
[Lunch break]
14:15-15:45&nbsp\;&Iacute\;ngrid Vendrell-Ferran&nbsp\;(Marburg University)
Landmann-Kalischer on Sense- and Value-Judgments in&nbsp\;&Uuml\;ber den Erkenntniswert &auml\;sthetischer Urteile
16:00-17:30&nbsp\;Keith Allen&nbsp\;(University of York)
Katz on Colour &nbsp\;

Venue: Room 2249a\, Humboldt-Universit&auml\;t zu Berlin\, Unter den Linden 6\, 10117 Berlin\, Germany&nbsp\;
Attendance: For registration\, please write to&nbsp\;twan.stiekel@hu-berlin.de
Organiser: Hamid Taieb (hamid.taieb@hu-berlin.de)
For more information:&nbsp\;www.a-sensible-world.net
&ndash\;&ndash\;&ndash\;&ndash\;
