DESCRIPTION:<p>THE 17TH ANNUAL MARK L. SHAPIRO GRADUATE PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE</p>\n<p>Hosted by the Department of Philosophy at Brown University on Feb 17-18\, 2024</p>\n<p>Special topic: Philosophy and the Real World</p>\n<p>We welcome submissions on the special topic\, broadly construed\, in any area of philosophy.</p>\n<p>Topics may include\, by no means exhaustively: what is the relevance of philosophy to practical action in the "real world"\, how to engage non-philosophers\, how to engage in public philosophy\, topics in applied ethics and social and political philosophy\, non-ideal vs. non-ideal and applied vs. abstract theorizing\, questions raised by the natural and social sciences\, etc...</p>\n<p>We also invite submissions of high quality work in any area of philosophy to be considered for presentation.</p>\n<p>The submission deadline is January 8th at 11:59pm Eastern. Decisions will be sent by Jan 20. Submissions must be prepared for anonymous review\, must not exceed 3\,500 words of body text\, and must be accompanied by a short abstract of about 200 words. Only one submission per person will be considered.
