DESCRIPTION:<p>&ldquo\;Kant\, the Judgement of Taste and the Problem of Intersubjectivity&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>International Workshop - Pavia\, May 6th‒7th\, 2024</p>\n<p>Call for abstracts</p>\n\n<p>Titles and abstracts (in English) should be sent to serena.feloj@unipv.it</p>\n<p>Deadline: February 16th\, 2024</p>\n<p>Length: 500 words</p>\n<p>Notice of acceptance: March 15th\, 2024</p>\n<p>Kant&rsquo\;s judgment of taste is\, by definition\, a non-cognitive\, subjective judgment\, for &laquo\;we do not relate the representation by means of understanding to the object for cognition\, but rather relate it by means of the imagination (perhaps combined with the understanding) to the subject and its feeling of pleasure or displeasure&raquo\; (KU 5: 203). Despite this judgment being subjective\, non-cognitive\, and grounded on a feeling of pleasure\, it claims universal validity\; this means that such a judgment is not only subjective but also intersubjective and\, therefore\, can be universally communicated. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts that address the problem of intersubjectivity of Kant&rsquo\;s judgment of taste by taking into account the process of communicability Kant accounts for as a subjective yet universal process that gives rise to a particular kind of community\, i.e.\, an aesthetic community.</p>\n<p>On this path\, we also welcome abstractsthat consider the unsuitability of the object of intuition to our cognitive faculties\, along with the corresponding negative judging feeling\, and that critically investigate the implications of an aesthetic community: is it a truly universal community? Or does it draw distinctions through the judgement of taste that can give rise to discrimination? Suggested topics include\, but are not limited to:</p>\n<p>- aesthetic community and communicability</p>\n<p>- aesthetic intersubjectivity</p>\n<p>- aesthetic agreement\, disagreement and conflicts</p>\n<p>- aesthetic appreciation and cultural identity</p>\n<p>- aesthetic displeasure</p>\n<p>- aesthetic distinction</p>\n<p>For further information: serena.feloj@unipv.it</p>
