DESCRIPTION:
(for French version\, please see below)

Field philosophy (philosophie de terrain) has many influences\, inspirations\, and methods related to the context in which it takes place. In France\, where the subject still remains taboo\, it holds a marginal place next to other dominant historical traditions in the history of philosophy. It is largely practiced by philosophers working at the margins and with contemporary subjects (health\, ecology\, religion\, etc). Similarly\, in Switzerland\, its place remains uncertain\, although in specific domains (such as applied philosophy\, in particular applied ethics) it has become common practice\, particularly in the context of collaborations on interdisciplinary projects. The diverse traditions and ambiguous place of field philosophy bring with it certain constraints. However\, this has also developed a forum for creative methodologies and postures in the field\, both inspired from philosophy and the social sciences. The ambition of this conference is to bring together philosophers and scholars who are inspired by philosophical theories (social sciences\, public health\, etc) and working in different traditions of field philosophy in several European countries (in particular France and Switzerland) to discuss their methods\, what they are seeking in the field\, and how they go about it. Its ambition is not to necessarily defend the use of social science methods (a continuous and circuitous debate that is currently happening in these contexts to question the place of the philosopher in the field)\, but rather to bring to the surface the multiple ways of doing philosophy and to show how field philosophers are pushing the methodological envelope. We aim to bring a safe space for these philosophers (and researchers working with philosophical methods or in interdisciplinary teams with philosophers)\, including those currently working at the margins of their disciplines\, to discuss together how to go about field philosophy\, in its methodological diversity and creativity.
\n\n
============
\n

\n
