DESCRIPTION:
EVENT DESCRIPTION (please note the conference is in person only)
\n
The conference will explore what it means to think m/Madness philosophically. The title reflects our interest in 'madness'&nbsp\; as both a speculative (lower case 'm') and a practical/political (upper case 'M') term. Furthermore\, it reflects our interest in the different ways in which m/Madness might be approached - either as an object of philosphical attention (with 'of' conceived as the objective genitive) or as a place from which philosophy might be done (with 'of' conceived as the subjective genitive).
\n

REGISTRATION
Attendance is free\, but registration (via email to: paul.lodge@mansfield.ox.ac.uk) is required.
\n

TALKS&nbsp\;
\n
Weds 25 Sept
\n
&nbsp\;9.30-10.00 Coffee and welcome
\n
10.00-11.15
Sofia Jeppsson (Ume&aring\;&nbsp\;University)
Madness\, transcendental arguments\, and alternate realities
\n
11.15-11.30 Break
\n
11.30-12.45
Alastair Morgan (University of Manchester)
What might it mean to affirm madness?
\n
12.45-2.15 Lunch break
\n
2.15-3.30
Zsuzsanna Chappell&nbsp\;(King&rsquo\;s College\, London)
Madness as political identity
\n
3.30-3.45 Break
\n
3.45-5.00
Justin Garson (CUNY &ndash\; Hunter College)
The madness of delusions: Is it time to drop the D-word?
\n
5.00-5.15 Break
\n
5.15-6.30
Lorna Collins (Independent Researcher)
&lsquo\;A Creative Transformation&rsquo\;: Reflections on creativity\, madness\, finitude and community
\n
7.30 Dinner at Mansfield College for speakers
\n
Thurs 26 Sept
\n
9.15-10.30
Tasia Scrutton (University of Leeds)
Can scrupulosity be spiritually innocent?
\n
10.30-10.45 Break
\n
10.45-12.00
Sabina Wantoch (Independent Researcher)
Integrating madness through mad philosophy: new kinds of intersubjectivity
\n
12.00-1.15 Lunch break
\n
1.15-2.30
Mohammed Rashed (King&rsquo\;s College\, London)
Understanding madness: Personal\, cultural\, and philosophical accounts&nbsp\;
\n
2.30-2.45 Break
\n
2.45-4.00
Shay Welch (Spelman College)
Borderline Personality Disorder and the Phenomenology of Existential Boredom
