DESCRIPTION:<p>The Institute of Philosophy at KU Leuven\, Belgium\,<em> </em>will host <em>The New Ethics of Belief</em> workshop on June 26 and 27\, 2024. The event will bring together philosophers working on the ethics of belief to present their current research on this topic. We are excited to announce that our keynote speakers will be Georgi Gardiner\, Ren&eacute\;e Jorgensen\, Paul Silva\, and Alex Worsnip.</p>\n\n<p>We seek three to four additional speakers to round out our lineup. We thus invite submissions of abstracts on questions related to the ethics of belief.&nbsp\;Possible questions include but are not limited to:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the norms governing belief?</li>\n<li>Does belief have an aim\, and\, if it does\, what is it and what is the relation between the aim of belief and its norms?</li>\n<li>Can there be practical or moral reasons for belief?</li>\n<li>Do practical or moral factors encroach on the epistemic?</li>\n<li>Can beliefs harm or wrong?</li>\n<li>Are there genuine epistemic kinds of injustice?</li>\n<li>Are belief formation\, revision\, and relinquishment under our voluntary control\, and\, if that is the case\, what kind of control is it?</li>\n<li>If we lack such control\, how can we even have norms of belief?</li>\n<li>How are we responsible or held accountable for what we believe?</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Submissions from academics from underrepresented groups in philosophy are especially encouraged.&nbsp\;</p>\n\n<p>Abstracts should be: i) no more than 1000 words long\, ii) prepared for anonymous review\, and iii) suitable for a forty-five-minute presentation.</p>\n\n<p>All submissions and inquiries should be sent to: thenewethicsofbelief@gmail.com</a>. We kindly ask you to send the author&rsquo\;s name\, paper title\, and affiliation in the body of the e-mail.</p>\n\n<p>The submission deadline is May 24\, 2024 at midnight CEST.</p>\n\n<p>Expect notifications about the outcome by May 27\, 2024.</p>
