DESCRIPTION:
Recent years have witnessed a resurgence of interest in artificial intelligence (AI) for science. Deep learning models\, and especially generative models\, are poised to radically reshape scientific practice. Some commentators even suggest that we are in the midst of an AI 'revolution' in science. Yet we are only beginning to grapple with the potential impact of this shift on future science. This conference will bring together philosophers and scientists to anticipate and address the epistemological and methodological challenges raised by AI for science in the short- and medium-term.
\n
Some of the more specific themes to be addressed include the potential impacts of AI on the future of:
\n
\n
Scientific experimentation\, modelling\, and theory generation\;
\n
Scientific evidence and standards of evaluation\;
\n
Scientific achievements such as discovery\, explanation\, and understanding\;
\n
The social structure of science\;
\n
Automation and the spectre of post-human science.
\n
\n
&nbsp\;Registration will open later in the summer.
