DESCRIPTION:
The international conference Wittgenstein\, Newman\, and Hinge Epistemology will take&nbsp\;place on 9-10 December 2024 in UCD Newman House\, St. Stephen&rsquo\;s Green\, Dublin\, Ireland.
\n
The keynote speakers are&nbsp\;Prof. Annalisa Coliva (UC Irvine)\,&nbsp\;Prof. Duncan Pritchard (UC Irvine)\, Prof. Genia Sch&ouml\;nbaumsfeld (Southampton)\, and&nbsp\;Prof. Crispin Wright (NYU &amp\; Stirling).
\n
Hinge epistemology is a new branch of philosophy inspired by Ludwig Wittgenstein&rsquo\;s view in&nbsp\;On Certainty&nbsp\;that &lsquo\;the&nbsp\;questions&nbsp\;that we raise\, and our&nbsp\;doubts\, depend on the fact that some propositions are exempt from doubt\, are as it were like hinges on which those turn&rsquo\; (OC 341). Hinge epistemology is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting areas of epistemology and Wittgenstein studies.
\n
This conference will explore the connections between this new area of research and the views of philosopher and theologian St. John Henry Newman (1801-90)\, with a view to developing new insights both into hinge epistemology and Newman studies.&nbsp\;
\n
To register for in-person or online attendance\, please follow the link below.&nbsp\;
\n
If you have any questions\, please email Dr. Xintong Wei at xintong.wei@ucd.ie.
