The Philosophy Department at the University of Durham\, in association with
the Institute for Advanced Study\, is pleased to announce a two-day\, inter-
disciplinary workshop\, including master-classes\, artist talks\, paper
presentations and moderated discussion\, on the theme of &lsquo\;Perceiving the
Light: Shadow\, Image\, Transparency&lsquo\;.
The goal of the workshop is to generate discussion on a range of visual
ephemera that remain under-theorised in contemporary philosophy of
perception &ndash\; for instance\, shadows\, rainbows and reflections\; the re-
presentation of such items in art and photography\; and on the nature of
appearances and images more generally.
A set of master-classes will be led by Andy Hamilton (Philosophy\, Durham)\,
Thomas Crowther (Philosophy\, Warwick) and Bob Kentridge (Psychology\,
Durham).
