DESCRIPTION:
CALL FOR PAPERS
\n\n
Culture Bewitched:
\n
An Interdisciplinary Transmedia Analysis of Witch/Craft in Society
\n\n
Clint Jones\, Capital University\, editor
\n\n
For inclusion in Lexington Books new series
\n\n
VILLAINS AND CREATURES
\n\n
Antonio Sanna &amp\; Samantha Langsdale\, series editors
\n\n
Purpose of the Book:
\n\n
The proposed volume will focus on witches and witchcraft and the resurgence of interest in Wicca and other forms of witchcraft especially within feminist\, LGBTQ+\, and environmental social spaces.&nbsp\; While the witch is often cast as a villain\, especially in horror and gothic films and literature\, the witch is substantially more versatile as an archetype and has not been given a thorough enough analysis of the multidimensionality of the character-type.&nbsp\; This volume looks to bring together examinations of witches and witchcraft not only from numerous academic positions but also from individuals currently practicing.&nbsp\; In this way I hope to draw attention to the appearance of witches and witchcraft in fashion\, food\, music\, positive portrayals\, critical theory applications\, overlooked history\, or in the most recent\, and arguably iconic\, portrayals of horror and gothic analysis including new forms of gothic study such as ecogothic\, frontier gothic\, nonwestern gothic\, etc.&nbsp\; Thus\, the proposed volume aspires to provide a complete and holistic snapshot of the witch in contemporary culture.
\n\n
TIMELINE OF IMPORTANT DATES
\n\n
Step 1: CFP circulated September 21\, 2024
\n
Step 2: Abstracts and CV&rsquo\;s due November 15\, 2024&mdash\;abstracts should be 300 &ndash\; 500 words and
\n
should include author&rsquo\;s name\, affiliation\, and contact information along with a
\n
current CV.
\n
Step 3: Authors notified of acceptance December 15\, 2024
\n
Step 4: Chapter drafts due no later than March 1\, 2025\; returned with edits asap
\n
Step 5: Final chapters due June 1\, 2025
\n
Step 6: Book sent for publishing July 1\, 2025
\n\n\n
For more information or to submit an abstract please contact Clint Jones at cjones354@capital.edu using the subject line &ldquo\;witch/craft manuscript&rdquo\;
