\nThe Institute for Philosophical Research of UNAM through its journal \;Crí\;tica. Revista Hispanoamericana de Filosofí\;a \;invites submissions for the &ldquo\;2025 Maite Ezcurdia Essay Prize&rdquo\; on the topic:
\nContextual Aspects of Language
\nArticles may be written in English or Spanish\, should include an abstract of no more than 110 words\, and should not exceed 10\,000 words (excluding references).
\nAll manuscripts will be considered as submissions to the journal and will be evaluated by external referees through \;Crí\;tica&rsquo\;s double-blind review system. The winning manuscript will be selected from among the articles accepted for publication by a jury appointed by the Editors of \;Crí\;tica.
\nThe author(s) of the winning essay will receive a cash prize of \;MXN $50\,000 \;(equivalent to approximately \;USD $2\,500) and will be invited to present their article at the award ceremony that will take place at the National Autonomous University of Mexico during the first week of December 2025.

\nAbout the Maite Ezcurdia Essay Prize \; \;
\nThe &ldquo\;Maite Ezcurdia Essay Prize&rdquo\; is a biennial prize created in honor of the life and work of Maite Ezcurdia (1966&ndash\;2018)\, a Mexican philosopher who played a key role in the development of analytic philosophy in Mexico and Latin America. Her research focused on philosophy of language\, philosophy of mind\, epistemology\, and cognitive science. Maite Ezcurdia&rsquo\;s main research interests were the analysis of referential expressions\, the semantics and pragmatics interface\, the nature of linguistic understanding\, consciousness\, perception\, and \;de se \;thoughts. As a researcher at the Institute for Philosophical Research of UNAM\, Maite Ezcurdia trained several generations of philosophers who have pursued successful academic careers. She worked tirelessly to improve the academic quality of philosophical work in Mexico and was the editor-in-chief of the journal \;Crí\;tica \;(2005&ndash\;2011). At the international level\, Maite Ezcurdia promoted the creation of the Latin American Association of Analytic Philosophy (ALFAn). \;

\nAbout \;Crí\;tica
\nCrí\;tica. Revista Hispanoamericana de Filosofí\;a \;is a quarterly journal published by the Institute for Philosophical Research at UNAM in Mexico. It publishes original articles\, discussions\, survey articles\, book symposia\, target articles\, special issues\, and reviews in any area of philosophy\, as long as they fall within the analytic tradition broadly understood. \;Crí\;tica \;places great value on conceptual precision\, argumentative rigor\, and originality. \;Crí\;tica&rsquo\;s readers are primarily academic philosophers and philosophy students\, so authors are expected to make clear how their work helps advance the relevant philosophical debates.
\n\nCrí\;tica \;welcomes contributions in all areas of contemporary philosophy\, including aesthetics\, epistemology\, ethics\, general philosophy of science\, metaethics\, metaphilosophy\, metaphysics\, moral philosophy\, philosophy of action\, philosophy of language\, philosophy of logic\, philosophy of mind\, philosophy of the special sciences\, political philosophy\, and social philosophy. \;Crí\;tica \;also publishes contributions in the history of philosophy\, provided that they focus on philosophical problems and arguments rather than on merely exegetical or contextual aspects of some historical figure or period. \;Crí\;tica \;also publishes articles that draw on empirical evidence to discuss issues of relevance to contemporary philosophy.
\n\nCrí\;tica \;publishes articles in English and Spanish. All accepted articles are published open access\, as defined by the \;Budapest Open Access Initiative\, which allows users to download\, read\, distribute\, and print the contents published by the journal\, on the condition that they give credit to the original authors and editors. \;Crí\;tica \;does not charge for submission\, processing\, publication or reading of manuscripts.
\n\nFounded in 1967 by Alejandro Rossi\, Fernando Salmeró\;n and Luis Villoro\, \;Crí\;tica \;was the first journal dedicated to analytic philosophy in Latin America. It has published articles by influential authors such as Carlos Alchourró\;n\, G.E.M. Anscombe\, David M. Armstrong\, Eugenio Bulygin\, Hé\;ctor-Neri Castañ\;eda\, Donald Davidson\, Jon Elster\, R.M. Hare\, Gilbert Harman\, John L. Mackie\, Hugo Margá\;in\, John McDowell\, Thomas Nagel\, David F. Pears\, Arthur N. Prior\, Hilary Putnam\, W.V.O.
