DESCRIPTION:<p>Confirmed keynote speakers:</p>\n<p>Jessica Brown (St Andrews)<br>Jason Stanley (Yale)<br>Jonathan Weinberg (Arizona)</p>\n<p>The third Graduate Conference of the Vienna Forum for Analytic Philosophy\, a student society for philosophical research in the analytic tradition at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Vienna\, will be held 22 &ndash\; 24 May 2014 on the topic of language and philosophical methodology.</p>\n<p>Since the early days of the Vienna Circle\, the issues around philosophical method\, objectives and practice have not lost their urgency. With the rise of experimental philosophy\, meta-philosophical considerations have received new impetus. Our conference aims to link these issues to contemporary problems concerning the philosophical analysis of language and to the linguistically informed debates in the philosophy of language\, epistemology and other areas of philosophy.</p>\n<p>We invite high-quality papers from graduate students on the following or related topics:</p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>ordinary language and conceptual analysis</li>\n<li>experimental philosophy and intuitions about language</li>\n<li>evidence in linguistics and philosophy</li>\n<li>intuition\, perception and immediate justification in philosophical methodology</li>\n<li>the role of language in meta-philosophy</li>\n<li>the application of results and tools from linguistics in epistemology and the philosophy of language</li>\n<li>natural and ideal languages in philosophical analysis</li>\n<li>knowing how\, expertise and conceptual competence in philosophical practice</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Submission information:</p>\n\n<p>Deadline for submission of abstracts: February 28\, 2014</p>\n\n<p>Notification of acceptance: March 14\, 2014</p>\n\n<p>Abstracts of approximately 500 words should be in English and prepared for blind review. The author&rsquo\;s name\, affiliation\, the title of the submitted paper\, and e-mail address must be included in a separate document. Files can be submitted in PDF\, RTF or DOC(X) and should be sent to</p>\n\n\n<p><a target="_blank">dejan.makovec@univie.ac.at</a></p>\n\n\n<p>All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Vienna Forum for Analytic Philosophy and faculty members of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna. Accepted papers should be suitable for a 30-min presentation (approx. 3.000 words). It should be clear from your abstract which authors and debates your paper will address.
