DESCRIPTION:
All Times are in&nbsp\;Central European Time&nbsp\;[CET]
\n
Title: "Well-formedness is meaningfulness: Exploring an old idea"
\n
Abstract: The example that started modern linguistics\, "colorless green ideas sleep furiously"\, was intended to show that well-formedness cannot be identified with meaningfulness when it comes to natural language. In this talk I explore the thesis that well-formedness is meaningfulness when it comes to natural language. Specifically\, I address the question what linguists would have to say about the syntax-semantics interface in order to defend that thesis. I also consider the possible relevance of the view on language put forward by Wittgenstein in the Tractatus to this whole discussion.
\n
Online at: https://unisi.webex.com/meet/salvatore.pistoiareda
\n
Contacts: salvatore.pistoiareda@unisi.it
\n
Acknowledgements: Next Generation EU\, PRIN 2022\, M4/C2-CUPB53D23014610001
