The purpose is to improve our understanding of how social cognition arises\, and how social cognition relates to other forms of cognitive activity. The core questions we will examine include the following. In what ways does social cognition emerge from individual cognition? What is the relationship between social cognition and group cognition? How should we integrate studies from perspectives? And how do the answers to these questions relate to more general questions about whether cognition is extended\, embodied\, or enactive?

There is no registration fee and all are welcome to attend. Please contact Patrick McGivern (patrickm@uow.edu.au) or David Simpson at UOW for more information.

Workshop Schedule

DAY 1 (Thursday)

9:30 Keynote #1 - Professor Shaun Gallagher (Wollongong\, Memphis and Hertfordshire) &ndash\; &lsquo\;The Problem with 3-year-olds&rsquo\;
11:00 Coffee
11:30 Session - Dr Victoria McGeer (Princeton and ANU) &ndash\; &lsquo\;Living with Blame&rsquo\;
12:30 Lunch
1:30 Session - Dr John Matthewson (Sydney) &ndash\; &lsquo\;Representing Cognition at The Group Level: Gains and Losses&rsquo\;
2:30 Session - Dr Philip Gerrans (Adelaide) &ndash\; &lsquo\;Social Cognition and the Embodied Self in Psychiatric Disorder&rsquo\;
3:30 Coffee
4:30 Session - Dr Somogy Varga (Memphis) - tba
5:30 Wrap-up

DAY 2 (Friday)

9:30 Keynote #2 - Professor Dan Hutto (Wollongong and Hertfordshire) &ndash\; &lsquo\;Non-Representational Mind Minding and the Origins of Content&rsquo\;
11:00 Coffee
11:30 Session - Ms Kellie Williamson (Macquarie) - tba
12:30 Session &nbsp\;- Dr David Simpson (Wollongong) &ndash\; &lsquo\;Understanding and Betrayal&rsquo\;
1:30 Closing discussio
