DESCRIPTION:
XXVIII International Summer School in Philosophy of Physics: Epistemology of Quantum Gravity
\n
26-30 May 2025\, University of Urbino&nbsp\;
\n
The XXVIII International Summer School in Philosophy of Physics focuses on the Epistemology of Quantum Gravity\, addressing a pivotal issue at the intersection of physics and philosophy. This year's theme explores the epistemological status of quantum gravity theories&mdash\;how can such a theory be formulated without empirical data\, and how can its progress be evaluated?
\n
The school will feature in-depth lectures on the physics\, philosophy\, and conceptual foundations of quantum gravity and its connections to cosmology\, epistemology\, and metaphysics. Topics include the challenges of constructing a theory of quantum gravity in the absence of experimental evidence\, and the debate over whether these approaches are advancing toward a coherent understanding of the quantum nature of spacetime or engaging in speculative theorizing.
\n
Speakers include:
\n
Eugenia Colafranceschi (University of Western Ontario)
\n
Karen Crowther (University of Oslo)
\n
Erik Curiel (University of Bonn)
\n
Richard Dawid (Stockholm University)
\n
Philipp Hoehn (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University)
\n
Director of the School:
\n
Vincenzo Fano (University of Urbino)
\n
School Organizers:
\n
Enrico Cinti (University of Geneva\, ILLC)
\n
Marco Sanchioni (Sophia University Institute)
\n
Niccol&ograve\; Covoni (University of Urbino\, University of Italian Switzerland)
\n
Organizing Committee:
\n
Mario Alai (University of Urbino)
\n
Matteo Bedetti (University of Urbino)
\n
Claudio Calosi (University of Venice Ca' Foscari)
\n
Enrico Cinti (University of Geneva\, ILLC)
\n
Niccol&ograve\; Covoni (University of Urbino\, University of Italian Switzerland)
\n
Vincenzo Fano (University of Urbino)
\n
Giovanni Galli (University of Teramo)
\n
Pierluigi Graziani (University of Urbino)
\n
Giovanni Macchia (University of Urbino)
\n
Vincenzo Nespeca (University of Urbino)
\n
Davide Pietrini (University of Urbino)
\n
Marco Sanchioni (Sophia University Institute)
\n
Mirko Tagliaferri (University of Urbino)
\n
Gino Tarozzi (University of Urbino)
\n
Isabella Tassani (University of Urbino)
\n
Call for Participation
\n
DEADLINE: 24 March 2025.
\n
To apply\, please submit:
\n
- A cover letter
\n
- A CV
\n
Notification of Acceptance: 7 April 2025.
\n
For further information\, please contact: cirfis.scuolaestiva@gmail.com\, or visit our website: https://sites.google.com/view/xxviii-urbino-summer-school/
\n
Please note:
\n
Participants must transfer 70.00 Euros to SILFS by 28 April 2025.
\n
Payment includes program attendance\, school materials\, and coffee breaks.
\n
Accommodation\, lunch\, and dinner are not included.
