DESCRIPTION:
Innovation plays a crucial role in the evolution of scientific practices\, and it does it in several ways. While technical innovation has had a clear and constant impact on the development of scientific theories during the last centuries\, many less-obvious forms of theoretical advance lend themselves to be analyzed through the concept of innovation\, which itself has been subject to renewed philosophical exploration in the last decades. The workshop will address issues related to the bidirectional relation between technological and scientific advance\, the internal and external mechanisms by which scientific practices become innovative\, and the models of rationality and progress best suited to describe and explain the phenomenon of innovation in scientific practice.
\n
Attendance is free upon prior registration the following address: andreu.ballus@uab.cat
\n
Invited speakers:
\n
- Thomas Nickles (U. of Nevada\, Reno).
\n
- Charles Lenay (Compi&egrave\;gne University of Technology).
\n
- Annouk Barberousse (Universit&eacute\; Lille 1)
\n
- Donald Gillies (UCL).
\n
Symposia:
\n
- The role of technology in scientific innovation.
\n
- The role of scientific discoveries in technological innovation.
\n
- Innovation and scientific rationality.
\n
- Innovation and PUSH (Public Understanding of Science and Humanities).
\n
CALL FOR POSTERS:
\n
Deadline for submission: April 25\, 2014
\n
Notification of acceptance: May 2\, 2014
\n
We welcome poster submissions\, especially by graduate and undergraduate students.
