DESCRIPTION:<p>In recent years\, we have witnessed remarkable advancements in AI. While these hold immense potentials to benefit society\, they also raise concerns about large-scale risks. These risks include the loss of control over AI systems due to algorithmic weaknesses\, the malicious use of AIs for terrorism\, and the irresponsible development of AI due to competitive pressures. Addressing these multifaceted challenges requires insights and expertise from diverse disciplines&mdash\;STEM\, social sciences\, the humanities\, and beyond. This conference aims to create a platform for fostering interdisciplinary dialogue\, promoting a synthetic understanding of large-scale AI risks\, and exploring potential solutions through the combined knowledge of experts from various fields.</p>\n<p><strong>Keynote speakers</strong></p>\n<p>Yoshua Bengio (Universit&eacute\; de Montr&eacute\;al)</p>\n<p>Dawn Song (University of California\, Berkeley)</p>\n<p>Iason Gabriel (Google DeepMind)</p>\n<p><strong>Call for papers</strong></p>\n<p>We invite participants from a wide range of academic disciplines&mdash\;including philosophy\, ethics\, computer science\, engineering\, the social and political sciences\, law\, and international relations&mdash\;to submit abstracts for a twenty-minute talk.</p>\n<p>Abstracts should be emailed as two attached documents. The first document containing the presentation title\, abstract (max. 400 words)\, and 3-5 keywords. The second document providing the name(s)\, affiliation(s)\, and contact details of the author(s).&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Email abstracts to existentialrisk@kuleuven.be no later than&nbsp\;<strong>15 February 2025</strong>.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Organized by The Ramsey Lab and the Chair Ethics and AI at KU Leuven.</p>
