The early work of Rudolf Carnap\, especially <em>Der logische Aufbau der Welt</em>\, is sometimes faulted for lacking a substantive theory of the subject. But Carnap&rsquo\;s approach acquires more substantial backing when viewed as continuous with the project of these 19th century theories of perception and objective knowledge.</p>\n
