For further information about the event\, please consult the following website\, or send a message to caterina.delsordo@ehu.eus:<br> <a target="_blank">Reconstructing Carnap Webinar Series</a></p>\n\n<p><strong>Carnap and the Psychological Subject</strong></p>\n<p><em>By Lydia Patton (Virginia Tech)</em></p>\n\n<p>Over the 19th century\, researchers including Hermann von Helmholtz\, Ernst Mach\, and William James examined the physiological basis for epistemic capacities that had been given an idealist explanation in earlier theories. The early work of Rudolf Carnap\, especially <em>Der logische Aufbau der Welt</em>\, is sometimes faulted for lacking a substantive theory of the subject. But Carnap&rsquo\;s approach acquires more substantial backing when viewed as continuous with the project of these 19th century theories of perception and objective knowledge.</p>\n
