DESCRIPTION:<p>We encourage PG students from a variety of academic disciplines to submit&nbsp\;papers. The conference has no clearly defined topic\, but strives to&nbsp\;explore issues of individuality in a world shared with others. Paper&nbsp\;submissions are invited from all interested departments\, the papers should&nbsp\;address the problem of individuality either</p>\n<ol>\n<li>in terms of scientific attempts to account for subjectivity or</li>\n<li>in terms of living with others.</li>\n</ol>\n<p>Possible areas for contributions:<br><br>Ethics and Metaphysics. Issues relating to the free-will/determinism&nbsp\;debate and the question of self-determination\, legal and moral&nbsp\;responsibility and personal identity in the context of Law or Politics and&nbsp\;Philosophy.&nbsp\;Philosophy of Mind and Body. What is the relation between the brain and&nbsp\;the mind?&nbsp\;In relation to practical issues (what makes a mental illness?) and&nbsp\;In relation to the more general question 'Am I my Brain?&rsquo\; trying to&nbsp\;explore approaches to connect Mind and Brain in the light of recent neuro-scientific research\, attempts to computer model brain-functions and&nbsp\;artificial intelligence.&nbsp\;In relation to the role of the body in the subject&rsquo\;s relation to others&nbsp\;(embodied consciousness\, expression\, the &lsquo\;problem&rsquo\; of other minds\, being-with-others\, etc.)&nbsp\;This issue could be approached from a multitude of angles\, for example:&nbsp\;Psychology\, Health &amp\; Social Care\, Philosophy\, but also Politics and Law&nbsp\;(how to legislate for an aging population and degenerative brain-diseases?) and Computer Sciences.<br><br>Epistemology (the scope and justification of scientific theories when&nbsp\;dealing with the mental etc). It also connects science with philosophy and&nbsp\;asks about their respective domains of competence\, their methods and&nbsp\;justifications and the achieved &lsquo\;levels of description&rsquo\;.
