DESCRIPTION:
Reset Dialogues on Civilizations\,&nbsp\;a think tank based in Milan and Boston\,&nbsp\;is&nbsp\;currently accepting applications for its Summer School\, which will be held at Venice International University on the island of San Servolo\, Italy\, from May 26 to 31. This year's theme is&nbsp\;Democracy&rsquo\;s Discontent.&nbsp\;Questions for the Political Philosophy of Our Times.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
As&nbsp\;liberal democracies&nbsp\;decline\, political life is marked by discontent\, protest\, and alienation from the elite\, with the working and middle classes fearing economic marginalization. Traditional channels for resolving grievances\, like unions and political parties\, are less effective\, leading to&nbsp\;radical polarization\, political rejection\, and the rise of extremist views. Efforts to address crises in wages\, housing\, and security have faltered\, deepening&nbsp\;inequalities&nbsp\;and eroding social mobility.&nbsp\;Political philosophy&nbsp\;now faces the challenge of understanding why democracies are in decline and what new frameworks can address the evolving conflict between the many and the few.&nbsp\;To address these issues\, Reset DOC will bring together a diverse\, interdisciplinary group of scholars&mdash\;philosophers\, political theorists\, sociologists\, and historians&mdash\;offering insights from around the world\, from the United States to Turkey to India. &nbsp\;
\n
Reset DOC is looking for students and young researchers to be involved in the event: the first part (May 26-28) is planned in the form of seminars\, with lectures\, and the second part as a conference (May 29-31).&nbsp\;Participation is entirely free\, and&nbsp\;assistance is available to support attendees.
\n
Application deadline: March 28
\n
Contact:&nbsp\;alessandra.tommasi@resetdoc.org&nbsp\;
\n
For further information:&nbsp\;https://www.resetdoc.org/event/venice-2025-democracys-discontent/&nbsp\; &nbsp\;&nbsp\;
