The Italian Association Pragma and the Nordic Pragmatist Network are pleased to announce the first European Conference on Pragmatism and American Philosophy. The conference will be held in Rome on September 19-21\, 2012 and will gather the most prominent scholars in the field. Invited scholars include: Patrick Baert\, Mats Bergman\, Rosa M. Calcaterra\, Ramon del Castillo\, Daniel Cefai\, Umberto Eco\, Rossella Fabbrichesi\, Roberto Frega\, Mathias Girel\, Christopher Hookway\, Sandra Laugier\, Giovanni Maddalena\, Jaime Nubiola\, Sami Pihlströ\;m\, Emil Visnosky. \;The Conference language will be English.
\n\nWith this call for papers we invite European and non European scholars to participate to the conference. The focus of the conference is on a better understanding of the relevance of American philosophy in general\, and pragmatism in particular\, to contemporary philosophical debates. American philosophy is here considered as a proper tradition of philosophy\, distinguished from\, and capable of dialoguing with\, any other tradition of thought. Papers are expected to illuminate both differences and convergences as well as new creative perspectives stemming from the background of pragmatism and American philosophy in any possible field of philosophical relevance.
We are accepting submissions for contributed papers. Please send an abstract of 500 - 1\,000 words toeuropeanpragmatism@gmail.com \;before April 1\, 2012. \;Notification of acceptance will be done by May 31st. Accepted papers will have to be received by August 31st. Papers must not exceed 4\,000 words in length and be adequate for a 40 minutes presentation. \;Attendance to the conference is free.
