DESCRIPTION:
BSP|2025|UDC &ndash\; Registration Open
\n
&lsquo\;Lifeworlds in Crisis: Applying Phenomenology&rsquo\;
\n
Joint international conference: British Society for Phenomenology &amp\; University College Dublin&rsquo\;s School of Philosophy\, Centre for Ethics in Public Life\, School of Law\, and ERC Coercive In/Justice (GENCOERCTRL) project
\n
University College Dublin\, Ireland | 27 &ndash\; 29 August 2025
\n
5 Keynotes | 70 Speakers | Special &amp\; Pre-constituted Panels | Book Session
\n
Since its inception\, phenomenology has extended beyond philosophical inquiry to influence various disciplines\, not only to tackle epistemological questions but also to engage with cultural and political issues\, including race\, gender\, and social (in)justice. The theme Lifeworlds in Crisis: Applying Phenomenology calls for an examination of how crises&mdash\;epistemic\, existential\, cultural\, political and social\, for example&mdash\;disrupt and redefine the fundamental structures of the lifeworld\, including through manifestations and experiences of harm\, violence\, or inequality. This conference aims to reconcile the theoretical foundations of phenomenology with its practical applications and critical potential\, focusing on how applied phenomenology can function as an interdisciplinary research program to address pressing issues of our time.
\n
The conference will be held in person at University College Dublin over three full days: 27&ndash\;29 August 2025.
\n
This year\, we will provide a space for some 70 speakers across multiple parallel tracks\, with papers grouped into thematic panels\, some of which have been pre-constituted by groups of speakers. There will also be the special panel 'Phenomenology and Armed Conflict\, Coercion and Violence' sponsored by the European Research Council project: Gender\, Conflict and Coercive Control: A Feminist Phenomenological Expansion of Conflict-related Harm. Keynote presentations by leaders in the field &ndash\; to be announced soon &ndash\; will take place across the three days of the event and will span all tracks\, allowing all participants to attend.
\n
Find out more and register attendance:
