About: The 4th International Conference on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (4ICEAI) aims to bring together researchers\, academics\, and professionals to explore the ethical dimensions of AI. Hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Porto\, this hybrid event will include online sessions on July 24-25\, 2025\, and in-person sessions on July 28-30\, 2025. The conference will focus on the philosophical\, social\, and ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence\, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among scholars from philosophy\, law\, sociology and AI research. With a growing impact of AI on society\, 4ICEAI seeks to address pressing concerns related to responsibility\, transparency\, and the future of human-AI interaction.

ETHICS OF AI AWARD 2025 \;(in-person talks only): The best-submitted abstract will receive the opportunity to deliver a special Award Talk similar to a keynote talk (note: the selected author will have the fee waived).

The final deadline to submit proposals in different research topics is \;June 25\, 2025.

KEYNOTES SPEAKERS:

John P. Hawthorne \;is Provost Professor of Philosophy and Linda MacDonald Hilf Professor of Philosophy at the University of Southern California. He was previously Waynflete Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford.
Julia Maria Mö\;nig \;is a Research and the Project Manager of the subproject of the AI NRW flagship project &ldquo\;Certified AI&rdquo\; at the Center for Science and Thought\, University of Bonn\, Germany.
Pietro Perconti \;is Professor of Philosophy of Mind at the University of Messina\, Italy\, and co-founded the International Center for Consciousness Studies (ICCS).
Emí\;lia Duarte \;holds a PhD in Human Kinetics with a specialization in Ergonomics from the Technical University of Lisbon. She is currently a Full Professor of Design at IADE &ndash\; European University\, Portugal.
Jesmin Jahan Tithi \;is an AI Research Scientist at Intel\, USA\, having a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University\, New York. She is the founding member of the Z-inspection®\;.
Christina H. Dietz \;is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at The University of Southern California. She was previously a Research Fellow at the Dianoia Institute of Philosophy at Australian Catholic University.
Gabriel Ferreira \;is Professor at the University of the Sinos River Valley\, Brazil. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Hong Kierkegard Library (USA) and completed a PostDoc at the University of Pittsburgh (USA).
Raquel Simõ\;es de Almeida \;is Invited Assistant Professor at the Porto Polytechnic Higher School of Health (ESS-PP) and researchers at the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Laboratory\, focused on the design of AI-based health products.

SUBMISSIONS:

IMPORTANT: you should \;clearly state \;if you are submitting for the \;online segment \;(OS) (24-25 July) or the \;in-person segment \;(PS) (28-30 July). If online\, you need to provide a \;preferred day \;(24 or 25 July) \;and time schedule \;(Morning: 9h30-12h30\; \;Afternoon: 14h00 &ndash\; 18h) considering the \;Lisbon Time Zone.
In-person submissions have a higher chance of being accepted (more slots available) and are automatically registered for the \;Ethics of AI Award \;2025.
Proposals should include \;two files: (in \;word. format: \;pdf. formats will not be accepted):\n
- (1) a cover page with identification\, clear academic affiliation (if several\, choose the main)\, and title\;
- (2) an anonymized title and abstract (maximum 250 words\, up to 10 references)

Paper duration: 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation + 10 minutes for discussion)\;
Notification Info: in order to facilitate the request for funding of the accepted talks so speakers can prepare their travel in advance\, notification of acceptance or rejection will be given in a 5-10 days period (review) after the submission\;
Publications: Some of the papers presented at the conference are expected to be published in several projects (edited volume\, special issue\, etc.\; the publication process will be independent and optional\; more details after the conference)\;
