The range of the properties perceived in music is much wider and richer than is commonly recognized\; and their nature is different too. I argue that an appreciation of this range overturns some prominent conceptions of the nature and perception of music. An appreciation of the nature of the relational properties perceived can contribute to the explanation of the value and aesthetic interest of music.
