The range of the properties perceived in music is much wider and richer than is commonly recognized\; and their nature is different too. I argue that an appreciation of this range overturns some prominent conceptions of the nature and perception of music. An appreciation of the nature of the relational properties perceived can contribute to the explanation of the value and aesthetic interest of music. A positive theory of these properties can also provide resources and apparatus needed for proper articulations in the historical development of music\, and in musical criticism.
&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
Upcoming events:
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
Spring 2014 Speaker series: Aesthetics as Philosophy of Perception:
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
March 20: Catherine Wilson (University of York)&nbsp\;- the 3rd Annual Marc Jeannerod Lecture
\n
April 3: Rob Hopkins (University of Sheffield/NYU)
\n
May 8: Dom Lopes (University of British Columbia)
\n
My 15: Alva&nbsp\;No&euml\;&nbsp\;(University of California\, Berkeley)
\n
May 22: Jenefer Robinson (University of Cincinnati)
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
Upcoming workshops and conferences:
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
March 12: Workshop on action phenomenology
\n
May 12-13: Conference on the representationalism vs. relationalism debate
\n
June 10-11: Conference on nonpropositional and imagistic content
\n
June 25-26: Symposium with Philip Kitcher
\n
More info:
