DESCRIPTION:<p>On<strong> September 25\, 2025\, at 18:00 WEST\,</strong> a discussion will take place about the book&nbsp\;<em>Queer Post-Cinema: Reinventing Resistance</em>&nbsp\;(ICI Berlin Press\, 2025)\, by<strong> Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky.</strong></p>\n<p>The discussion will be held in the auditorium A2 of NOVA FCSH and will feature the author\, Susana Viegas and Iracema Dulley.</p>\n<p><strong>About the book</strong></p>\n<p>The pioneers of what has been labelled New Queer Cinema laid the foundation for a Queer Post-Cinema &mdash\; a movement in which artists experiment with technology in innovative ways. Through original readings of Todd Haynes&rsquo\;s early films\, Sharon Hayes and Yael Bartana&rsquo\;s videos and installations\, Su Friedrich&rsquo\;s digital video Seeing Red\, Charlie Prodgers&rsquo\;s iPhone film Bridgit\, and Claire Denis&rsquo\;s science-fiction film Highlife\, this monograph shows how artists are creating a new form of resistance in the time of the digital image and generative AI.</p>\n<p><strong>Bios</strong></p>\n<p><strong>ASTRID DEUBER-MANKOWSKY</strong> is Professor of Media Studies and Gender Studies at the Ruhr-Universit&auml\;t Bochum. She studied philosophy and German literature at the University of Zurich and the Freie Universit&auml\;t zu Berlin. Before joining the Ruhr-Universit&auml\;t Bochum\, she taught at the Institut f&uuml\;r Kulturwissenschaft at the Humboldt-Universit&auml\;t Berlin from 1996 to 2004. She is co-founder and was editor of the journal&nbsp\;<em>Die Philosophin. Forum f&uuml\;r feminstische Theorie und Philosophie</em>&nbsp\;from 1990 to 2004. She was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley (2007)\, visiting professor at the Centre d&rsquo\;&eacute\;tudes du vivant\, Universit&eacute\; Paris VII &ndash\; Diderot (2010)\, senior fellow at the Internationales Kolleg f&uuml\;r Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie (IKKM) Weimar (2013)\, and Max Kade Professor at Columbia University (2012 and 2017). She is also an external affiliate of the Centre for Philosophy and Critical Thought at Goldsmiths\, University of London. Her research focuses on topics in critical\, feminist and queer theory\, media philosophy and epistemology\, temporality and media aesthetics\, media anthropology and theories of play\, as well as Jewish philosophy. In cooperation with the ICI Berlin she has organized several international conferences: &lsquo\;Situiertes Wissen und regionale Epistemologie/Savoirs situ&eacute\;s et &eacute\;pist&eacute\;mologie r&eacute\;gionale&rsquo\;\, 24-26 February 2011 (concept and organization Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky and Christoph Holzhey)\, &lsquo\;Unentrinnbares\, Unzerst&ouml\;rbares? Symposium anl&auml\;sslich des 70. Geburtstags von Itta Shedletzky&rsquo\;\, 21-22 March 2013 (concept and organization Bettina Banasch and Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky)\, &lsquo\;Conatus und Lebensnot\, Konzepte des &Uuml\;berlebens&rsquo\;\, 15-17 January 2015 (concept and organization Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky and Anna Tuschling).</p>\n<p><strong>IRACEMA DULLEY</strong> holds a BA in philosophy and a PhD in social anthropology from the University of S&atilde\;o Paulo and is a practicing psychoanalyst. She has been appointed Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Her research considers processes of subject constitution from an interdisciplinary perspective. She has conducted fieldwork in and archival research on colonial and post-colonial Angola and her publications focus on ethnographic theorization\, the case study\, witchcraft\, translation\, naming practices\, and processes of differentiation related to race\, ethnicity\, gender\, and sexuality.</p>\n<p><strong>Funding</strong></p>\n<p>Funded by the European Union (ERC\, FILM AND DEATH\, 101088956).
