DESCRIPTION:
Call for Chapter Proposals &ndash\;&nbsp\;A Companion to Marxist Aesthetics
\n
Editor: Kishore Kumar K. P. (Department of Philosophy\, University of Kerala)
\n
We invite chapter proposals for contributions to A Companion to Marxist Aesthetics\, a comprehensive and cutting-edge volume that explores the historical evolution\, critical debates\, and contemporary relevance of aesthetic theory grounded in the Marxian tradition.
\n
This companion is intended to serve as a definitive reference work for scholars\, students\, and researchers working in philosophy\, literary theory\, political aesthetics\, cultural studies\, art history\, and adjacent disciplines.
\n
Scope and Aim
\n
Each chapter will combine a rigorous and accessible overview of a particular theme or figure in Marxist aesthetics with an original scholarly intervention. We aim to reflect the diversity of global Marxist thought\; spanning classical theory\, Western Marxism\, post-Marxism\, decolonial aesthetics\, and contemporary art criticism while maintaining strong philosophical coherence. Contributions from interdisciplinary\, intersectional\, and non-Western perspectives are especially encouraged.
\n
Suggested Topics
\n
\n
\n
Foundations and Classical Thinkers
\n
\n
\n
Marx and Engels on art and ideology
\n
\n
\n
Early Marx and the concept of species-being in artistic production
\n
\n
\n
Aesthetic alienation and commodity fetishism
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Aesthetics and Historical Materialism
\n
\n
\n
Art\, labor\, and the material base
\n
\n
\n
Class struggle and representation in art
\n
\n
\n
Dialectics of form and content
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Western Marxism
\n
\n
\n
Luk&aacute\;cs\, Bloch\, and the ontology of art
\n
\n
\n
Theodor Adorno and aesthetic autonomy
\n
\n
\n
Walter Benjamin: aura\, reproduction\, and revolutionary potential
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Marxist Literary and Cultural Criticism
\n
\n
\n
Raymond Williams and cultural materialism
\n
\n
\n
Structuralism\, Althusser\, and ideology critique
\n
\n
\n
Fredric Jameson and the political unconscious
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Art\, Politics\, and Praxis
\n
\n
\n
Socialist realism and its critiques
\n
\n
\n
Radical avant-garde and the politics of form
\n
\n
\n
Art and revolution in Latin America\, Asia\, and Africa
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Contemporary and Post-Marxist Directions
\n
\n
\n
Žižek\, Badiou\, and the return to communism
\n
\n
\n
Neoliberalism and the commodification of aesthetics
\n
\n
\n
Postcolonial\, feminist\, and queer engagements with Marxian aesthetics
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
The Aesthetic in Everyday Life
\n
\n
\n
Spectacle\, consumption\, and mediated desire
\n
\n
\n
Art in the age of digital capitalism
\n
\n
\n
Popular culture\, memes\, and the new aesthetic proletariat
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Thinker-Focused Chapters
\n
\n
\n
Focused examinations of individual theorists\, artists\, or movements in relation to Marxian aesthetics
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Other Topics
\n
\n
\n
We welcome proposals that challenge boundaries or introduce new theoretical directions within Marxian aesthetic thought.
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Submission Guidelines
\n
We welcome chapter proposals of approximately 500 words\, including:
\n
\n
\n
A working title
\n
\n
\n
A brief abstract outlining the scope\, key arguments\, and original contribution of the chapter
\n
\n
\n
A short bio (including affiliation and any relevant publications)
\n
\n
\n
Timeline
\n
\n
\n
Deadline for Proposals: November 05\, 2025
\n
\n
\n
Notification of Acceptance: November 30\, 2025
\n
\n
\n
Full Chapter Submission: March 1\, 2026
\n
\n
\n
Editorial Feedback Returned: April 30\, 2026
\n
\n
\n
Final Revised Chapters Due: June 15\, 2026
\n
\n
\n
Chapter Length: 6\,000&ndash\;8\,000 words
\n
\n
\n
Submission and Inquiries
\n
Please submit proposals and direct questions to:
\n
\n
\n
Kishore Kumar K.
