DESCRIPTION:
This focused workshop explores the intersection of empirical research on moral cognition and philosophical theories of social and moral progress. We bring together experimental philosophers and moral epistemologists to examine how empirical findings about moral intuitions\, attitude change\, and intellectual virtues inform our understanding of moral improvement at both individual and societal levels. The workshop features invited speakers alongside selected contributions from an open call for abstracts\, fostering intimate discussion among researchers working at the forefront of experimental and theoretical approaches to social and moral progress.&nbsp\;

**** Online Attendance Possible\, if interested write to Hviciana [at] us.es *** All Times are Central European Time. ****
\n
WORKSHOP ON MORAL EPISTEMOLOGY AND SOCIAL PROGRESS November 4-5\, 2025 | Facultad de Filosof&iacute\;a\, Universidad de Sevilla
\n
Tuesday\, November 4 (Aula de Grados &rarr\; Sal&oacute\;n de Actos)
\n
\n
9:45-11:00 &mdash\; KEYNOTE: Jen Cole Wright (College of Charleston): "Others Like Me: Issue-Position Groups As Both Drivers and Distorters of Moral Progress"
\n
11:00-11:30 &mdash\; Coffee Break
\n
11:45-12:45 &mdash\; Eric Funkhouser (University of Arkansas): "Better Angels or Better Optics?: Making Progress with Moral Judgments as Signals"
\n
12:45-13:45 &mdash\; Jorge Su&aacute\;rez (Universidad de Granada): "Legal change in euthanasia follows rather than reshapes ethical consensus"
\n
13:45-16:00 &mdash\; Lunch
\n
16:00-17:00 &mdash\; Wali Hussaini (University of Miami): "Invariant vs. Variant Moral Norms: A Two-Factor Model of Moral Disagreement"
\n
17:00-17:15 &mdash\; Coffee Break
\n
17:15-18:15 &mdash\; Matilde Liberty (University of Genoa): "Subversiveness as the virtue for societal progress"
\n
18:15-19:30 &mdash\; KEYNOTE: James Beebe (University at Buffalo): "Folk Metaethics and Cooperation"
\n
20:00 &mdash\; Social Program (ask for details!)
\n
\n
Wednesday\, November 5 (Aula de Grados)
\n
\n
9:30-10:30 &mdash\; Rafael Ruiz (LSE): "Enabling Conditions and Materialism about Social and Moral Progress"
\n
10:30-11:30 &mdash\; Eduardo P&eacute\;rez-Navarro (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela): "Friends with the Good.
