DESCRIPTION:
Shenkar Conference 2014
\n
Department of Cultural Studies
\n
Visual Culture: Between Resistance and Obedience
\n
The conference aims to explore &ldquo\;obedience&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;resistance&rdquo\; as key concepts in the study of visual culture from a variety of perspectives&mdash\;national\, political\, ethnic\, class\, and gender. This interdisciplinary conference asks what roles obedience and resistance might play in the production and dissemination of a visual image? Does the image obey or resist the visual order? How can a focus on these dichotomous concepts contribute to our understanding of the distinction between reality and its representations?
\n\n
&nbsp\;
\n
Sunday 30.3.2014
\n\n
17:30 Gathering and Exhibition Opening of &ldquo\;Activestills&rdquo\;
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
18:00 Greetings: Prof. Yarom Vardimon\, Dean of Faculty of Design\, Shenakr\, and the Israel &nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; &nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Prize laureate for design in 2007
\n\n
18:15 Opening Lecture: The Ghosts of Revolution\, Prof. David Crowley\, Royal College of Art\, London
\n\n
Monday 31.3.2014
\n\n
9:30 Gathering
\n\n
10:00 Greetings: Prof. Yuli Tamir\, President of Shenkar
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
10:15&ndash\; 11:30&nbsp\; Session 1: Tradition and Innovation
\n
&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Chair: Michalle Gal
\n\n
The Visual Image as a Necessity and as an Ideology of Necessity: Philosophical Aspects
\n
Moshe Zuckermann\, Tel-Aviv University
\n\n
Tradition and Innovation in Flying Witches by Francisco Goya
\n
Guy Tal\, Shenkar
\n\n
To Leave or Remove: Protest against Art in the Public Space
\n
Ronit Steinberg\, Bezalel\, Israel Museum
\n\n\n
12:00 &ndash\; 13:30&nbsp\; Session 2: Commercialization and Subversion
\n
&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Chair: Leah Perez
\n\n
Order versus Intuition in Children&rsquo\;s Israeli Comic Books
\n
Yirmi Pinkus\, Shenkar
\n\n\n
Against the Power: The &ldquo\;Babel&rdquo\; Publishers as Designing Activism
\n
Dekel Bobrov\, Shenkar
\n\n\n
14:45 &ndash\; 16:30 Session 3: Space and Ideology
\n
&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Chair: Michal Chacham
\n\n
Neo-Liberal Visibility: The Israeli Suburban Space
\n
Tamar Berger\, Bezalel\, Technion
\n\n
On the Foundation of the New Jewish National Fund (JNF)
\n
Eitan Bronstein Aparicio\, &ldquo\;Zochrot&rdquo\; (Remembering) Association
\n\n
From Arcadia to the City of Ariel: The Concealed Politics of the Na&iuml\;ve Landscape
\n
Larry Abramson\, Shenkar
\n\n
Photography\, Search\, Manipulation
\n
Yanai Toister\, Sidney University\, Bezalel\, Shenkar
\n\n\n
17:00 &ndash\; 18:30&nbsp\; Session 4: Identity and Alienation
\n
&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Chair: Sivan Shtang
\n\n
Why Women Wearing Burka Laugh?
