DESCRIPTION:
Abstracts are invited for a workshop on Hyperintensionality and (Meta)-Metaphysics\, to be hosted by the Department of Philosophy at the Uppsala University\, May 12-13th 2026.
\n
Workshop: Hyperintensionality and (Meta)-Metaphysics
\n
Invited speakers: Francesco Berto (University of St Andrews) and Alessandro Torza (University of Parma)
Date: 12-13 May
Location: Uppsala University
Organizers: &Aring\;ke Gafvelin (Uppsala University)\; Andrea Crepoli (Uppsala University)\; Matti Eklund (Uppsala University)
\n
Description
\n
Recent debates in metaphysics have concerned notions such as grounding\, essence and structure. These notions appear to be hyperintensional\, in that they make distinctions finer than those captured by standard possible worlds semantics.&nbsp\;
\n
This workshop aims to bring together philosophers working at the intersection of hyperintensional semantics\, metaphysics and meta-metaphysics. We welcome submissions that explore the implications of hyperintensionality for metaphysical theorizing and critically examine the metaphysical underpinnings of hyperintensional distinctions.
\n
Topics may include (but are not limited to):
\n
\n
\n
Are hyperintensional distinctions worldly or representational?
\n
\n
\n
The metaphysical status of grounding and fundamentality. Are grounding-facts fundamental\, grounded or neither?
\n
\n
\n
The fine-grainedness of facts\, properties and propositions.
\n
\n
\n
Which kind of semantics most accurately tracks subject-matter in metaphysical explanation &ndash\; topics\, structured propositions\, or truthmakers?
\n
\n
\n
The relationship between hyperintensional metaphysics and an abundant ontology.
\n
\n
\n
The role of hyperintensionality for elucidating meta-metaphysical debates about realism and deflationism.
\n
\n
\n
Submission details
\n
\n
\n
Abstract length: up to 1000 words\, prepared for blind review
\n
\n
\n
Deadline: January 31st
\n
\n
\n
Notification of acceptance: February 28th
\n
\n
\n
Submission email:hyperintensionalityworkshop@gmail.com&nbsp\;
\n
\n
\n
We invite four contributed talks.
