DESCRIPTION:<p>Call for Book Proposals: The Bloomsbury Guides to Philosophy Teaching&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Bloomsbury announced in Spring of 2025 a new book series: <strong><em>The Bloomsbury Guides to Philosophy Teaching: The Latest Research Made Classroom Ready</em></strong>\, edited by Andrew Mills and Alexandra Bradner. This comprehensive pedagogical series\, the first of its kind\, will feature a collection of succinct\, research-based\, &ldquo\;how-to&rdquo\; guides by pedagogical experts on important topics in philosophy teaching.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The series as a whole will feature volumes on teaching<strong> particular courses</strong> (like early modern philosophy\, logic\, or bioethics)\, adopting <strong>particular pedagogies</strong> (like small group work\, traditional lectures\, or teaching through games)\, fulfilling certain <strong>departmental duties</strong> (like assessment or expanding the major)\, teaching in certain <strong>environments</strong> (like two-year colleges or graduate schools)\, and teaching specific <strong>skills</strong> (like argumentative writing or close reading).&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>We are pleased to say that we now have proposals that are in various stages of production. Please look forward to volumes on designing philosophy courses from the ground up\, teaching the general education student\, team-based learning in philosophy\, teaching philosophy to pre-college students\, Socratic teaching\, teaching students how to read philosophical texts\, alternative grading\, and many more.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>We are looking for authors to write books that will tackle a major aspect of philosophy teaching with research-based\, classroom-tested advice. We intend these books to be valuable to philosophy teachers at all stages of their careers\, from graduate students getting ready to teach their first class\, to seasoned philosophy pedagogues looking to refresh a recurring course. While we welcome volumes on any aspect of philosophy teaching\, we are particularly interested in proposals on the following subjects:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Moderating and encouraging class discussion</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Online teaching</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Argumentative writing</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Teaching introductory symbolic logic</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Teaching critical thinking</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Teaching normative ethics</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Teaching ancient philosophy</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Structuring the philosophy major</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Teaching modern philosophy</p>\n</li>\n<li>\n<p>Approaches to capstone &amp\; gateway courses</p>\n</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Each book will be a maximum of <strong>50\,000 words</strong>\, covering all that readers need to know through a literature review of the relevant<strong> SoTL work</strong> and <strong>qualitative advice</strong> drawn from the author&rsquo\;s extensive classroom experience. Each book will be accompanied by a collection of updatable <strong>online material</strong> which might include sample syllabi\, model assignments\, and other supplemental resources. We plan to release two to three titles every year\, beginning in 2026.</p>\n<p>We are currenly accepting book proposals. The deadline above is required by PhilEvents.
