SUMMARY:“Transformation or Addition? Two Ways of Looking at Anthropological Difference”
UID:20260419T064205Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-f5d4878dd-x5n6c
TZID:Europe/Berlin
LOCATION:Am Neuen Palais\, Haus 11\, Raum 0.09\, Potsdam\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:
There are two distinct ways of understanding anthropological difference\, that is\, the fundamental mental difference between humans and animals. According to the additive view\, the distinguishing trait (e.g. reason) is added to pre-existing cognitive capacities (e.g. perception) and conative abilities (e.g. desire). According to the transformative view\, by contrast\, the distinguishing characteristic fundamentally reshapes these capacities and abilities. In his Fines Hominis Lecture\, Markus Wild will critically examine\, first\, the transformative view and\, second\, the opposition of views itself.
\n
The Fines Hominis Lecture will be followed by a wine reception in House 11. On Jan 30\, we will continue the conversation at a workshop on negative anthropology.
\n
For more infos on the lecture visit: https://cpkp.net/event/markus-wild-transformation-or-addition-two-ways-of-looking-at-anthropological-difference/
\n
For more infos on the workshop visit: https://cpkp.net/event/negative-anthropology/
