UID:20260422T085141Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-f5d4878dd-dnjxp
TZID:Europe/London
DESCRIPTION:
The workshop The Logic of Profit and Faith will be part of the WoCoLoR 2026 &ndash\; Vancouver\, Canada (September 23&ndash\;27).
\n
It explores the tension and possible dialogue between the logic of profit and the logic of faith.&nbsp\;
\n
Rather than assuming that one can be reduced to the other\, this workshop invites contributions that examine the irreducibility\, conflict\, and possible intersections between these two domains. What kind of &ldquo\;logic&rdquo\; governs profit? What kind of &ldquo\;logic&rdquo\; governs faith? And what happens when these logics intersect in human\, institutional\, or cultural practices?
\n
Drawing on philosophical\, theological\, and interdisciplinary approaches\, we aim to open a space for reflecting on how value is created\, expressed\, and negotiated across different forms of life.
\n
We welcome contributions that engage with\, but are not limited to\, the following questions:
\n
\n
What distinguishes calculative reasoning from forms of reasoning grounded in faith\, trust\, or commitment?
\n
Can economic rationality account for values such as mercy\, dignity\, or sacrifice?
\n
Is there a limit to what can be measured\, priced\, or optimized?
\n
How do language\, power\, and social practices shape what counts as &ldquo\;value&rdquo\;?
\n
What role does uncertainty\, chance\, or contingency play in economic and ethical life?
\n
How do religious traditions challenge or reinforce contemporary economic systems?
\n
Can business ethics accommodate demands that exceed profit-oriented frameworks?
\n
What are the ethical implications of treating human life\, labor\, or relationships as economic variables?
\n
How do different cultural or religious traditions conceptualize wealth\, obligation\, and responsibility?
\n
What tensions arise between institutional logics (corporations\, markets) and lived moral experience?
\n
\n
We particularly encourage work that engages with philosophy\, logic\, theology\, economics\, and critical theory\, as well as interdisciplinary approaches.
\n
Submission&nbsp\;
\n
To submit\, please use the official congress form:
https://5wocolor.com/
\n
Indicate: The Logic of Profit and Faith&nbsp\;
\n
About the Congress
\n
The 5th World Congress on Logic and Religion brings together scholars from diverse disciplines to explore the relationship between logic and religion\, reason and faith\, and rational inquiry and divine revelation.
\n
Previous editions were held in Jo&atilde\;o Pessoa (2015)\, Warsaw (2017)\, Varanasi (2022)\, and Sinaia (2023)\, featuring distinguished speakers such as Saul Kripke\, Laurent Lafforgue\, and Michal Heller.
\n
Contact
\n
Maira de Cinque
mairadecinque@gmail.com
\n
Conference details
\n
https://philevents.org/event/show/147573
\n
https://philevents.org/event/show/147577
