DESCRIPTION:<p>For the third meeting of SIPHOP\, we invite papers that explore the philosophical significance of <strong>early modern philosophy</strong> in the development of phenomenology. &nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Steven Galt Crowell (Joseph and Joanna Nazro Mullen Professor of Philosophy\, Rice University)\, keynote address: "The Role of Leibniz in Heidegger's Metaphysical Decade"</p>\n<p>Michael Kim (Villanova University) &ldquo\;Logic as Transcendental Monadology: Husserl&rsquo\;s Transformation of Leibniz&rsquo\;s Metaphysics&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>Robin Muller (The New School for Social Research)\, &ldquo\;Ways of Seeing and Ways of Mattering: Language and Affectivity in Herder and Heidegger&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>Matthew Shockey (Indiana University South Bend)\, &ldquo\;Heidegger&rsquo\;s Kantian Cartesianism"</p>\n<p>Daniel Robert Siakel (University of California\, Irvine)\, &ldquo\;Hume and Husserl on Time and Time-Consciousness&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>Meghant Sudan (Concordia University\, Montreal)\, &ldquo\;From Criticism to Self-Criticism: Husserl's Critique of Modern Empiricist Nominalism&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>Katherine Ward (Georgetown University)\, &ldquo\;Understanding The Age of the World Picture: Science and Its Modern Inheritance&rdquo\;</p>\n<p>For more information\, contact James Reid (jreid12@msudenver.edu)</p>\n\n<p>*</p>\n\n<p>CFP:</p>\n<p>Submissions on Kant will be considered\, but because Kant has been the focus of previous seminars\, preference will be given to papers focusing on other figures. &nbsp\;Husserl&rsquo\;s and Heidegger&rsquo\;s various engagements with Descartes and Kant are clear choices\, but papers dealing with less obvious topics and lines of influence are also welcome&mdash\;Scheler&rsquo\;s Pascalian inheritance\, e.g.\, or Husserl&rsquo\;s indebtedness to Hume. &nbsp\;Presenters will have approximately 45 minutes to read\, followed by 30 minutes of discussion. &nbsp\;Completed papers should consequently be 4500-5000 words\, excluding notes. &nbsp\;Please send abstracts of no more than 750 words prepared for blind review to James D. Reid (jreid12@msudenver.edu) by <strong>25 July 2014 (extended!).</strong>&nbsp\;&nbsp\;<strong>Steven Crowell (Rice)</strong> is this year&rsquo\;s keynote speaker\, and there will be slots for 6-8 additional papers. &nbsp\;The meeting will be held at the Metropolitan State University of Denver\, 20-21 September 2014.</p>
