SUMMARY:Wittgenstein and Quine on Truth\, Evidence and Semantic Content
UID:20260622T044416Z-iCalPlugin-Grails@philevents-web-bd7db559-gt5qm
TZID:America/Toronto
LOCATION:Zürich\, Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:
The notion of semantic content is in the focus of the philosophical works of both the early Ludwig Wittgenstein and W.V.O. Quine. Their views on this issue\, however\, differ substantially. This workshop intends to delineate these perspectives and to evince how they interlock with their theories of truth and of the relationship between language and non-linguistic reality.
\n
For this workshop\, we invite applications for participation\, primarily by doctoral students\, but also by others interested in the field. Participants may either present their own work in a presentation of 30 minutes (with additional time for discussion)\, or simply submit a question or a claim for discussion (max. 15min.). In both cases\, applicants are kindly requested to send an email (addresses see below) with the header &ldquo\;Application: Wittgenstein-Quine Workshop&rdquo\; to the organizers and enclose a short abstract of approximately 150 words until 17th of August.

Participants not presenting are also very welcome\, just register by sending an email to one of the addresses listed below.

Attendance to the workshop is free. Some travel bursaries might be available for contributing Swiss doctoral students.

Organizers: Reto Gubelmann (reto.gubelmann@philos.uzh.ch) and Susanne Huber
(susanne.huber@philos.uzh.ch)
