Pedro Arrupe\, S.J.\, once said\, &ldquo\;nothing is more practical than finding God\, than falling in Love in a quite absolute\, final way.&rdquo\;&nbsp\; This thought raises many questions\, among them:
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; What are religious practices?
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; What is the significance of these practices?
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; What is the nature and significance of specific aspects of religious practices: forgiveness\, worship\, meditation\, mission\, faith\, hope\, and love?
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; How does a plurality of religious practices affect any different religious practices?
\n
We invite submissions exploring any topic of interest to Christian philosophers\, but those dealing explicitly with the conference theme may be given preference.&nbsp\; The conference organizers intend to bring together a wide range of topics and ideas with the hope of fostering a rich and broad discussion among those interested in Christianity and philosophy.&nbsp\; We welcome participation from both Christians and non-Christian philosophers as presenters and participants.
\n
Keynote Speakers:
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Lara Buchak (UC Berkeley)\,
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Meghan Sullivan (Notre Dame)
\n
&middot\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\; Trent Dougherty (Baylor University)
\n
Papers (no more than 3000 words) are due by December 20\, 2014. Please include professional contact information and an abstract with your paper.&nbsp\;
\n
Submit papers to: midwestscp2015@gmail.com.
\n
We intend to notify those accepted by Jan 15\, 2015.
\n
Graduate Student Prize
\n
Graduate students who wish to be considered for the SCP&rsquo\;s prize for the Best Graduate Student Paper must submit a final draft of their papers by Dec 20\, 2014.&nbsp\; The $400 award will be presented publicly at the conference.&nbsp\; In your submission email\, please indicate that you are a graduate student.
\n
For any questions about the conference\, please contact:
\n
Chris Dodsworth - cdodsworth@shc.edu
\n
Ted Poston - poston@southalabama.edu
