LOCATION:Universitätstrasse 7\, Vienna\, Austria
DESCRIPTION:
We are currently not only facing a very serious climate crisis\, but also a crisis of knowledge related to a heating planet. Scientific data have been collected and interpreted for decades. The data are published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on a frequent scale. However\, it appears as if that theoretical and scientific knowledge is by no means sufficient for initiating a successful politics of climate protection or even to spur individual or collective action desperately needed in order to achieve climate goals.
\n
This workshop brings together scientists and philosophers with the aim of producing an interdisciplinary and new body of knowledge. It&nbsp\;will be focused (a) on the generation of climate knowledge that helps to translate data into accessible models and languages that might unfold action-guiding force\; and we (b) wish to discuss how abstract climate knowledge can be reframed so that motivational problems can be resolved. Both aspects are desperately needed in order to build bridges from natural sciences to applicable and motivationally inspiring knowledge.
\n
Schedule:
\n
09:00 &ndash\; 09:15Welcome and Introduction
\n
09:15 &ndash\; 09:45"Climate Ethics and Problems of Collective Action"
\n
Angela Kallhoff\, Professor at the Department of Philosophy\, University of Vienna\; Principal Investigator\, Cluster of Excellence &ldquo\;Knowledge in Crisis&rdquo\;
\n
09:45 &ndash\; 10:15"Cognitive and Motivational Basis of Pro-Environmental Behavior"
\n
Arianna Curioni\, Senior Scientist and Lecturer\, Department of Cognition\, Emotion\, and Methods in Psychology\, University of Vienna
\n
10:15 &ndash\; 10:45 Coffee break
\n
10:45 &ndash\; 11:15"Reporting on Climate Change: A Journalistic Tightrope Walk"
\n
Sven Titz\, Science Journalist\, Neue Z&uuml\;rcher Zeitung
\n
11:15 &ndash\; 11:45"Uncertainty and Lack of Knowledge in the Ethics of Nature"
\n
Andreas Hetzel\, Professor at the Department of Philosophy\, Universit&auml\;t Hildesheim
\n
11:45 &ndash\; 12:30Roundtable Discussion
\n
12:45 &ndash\; 14:30 Lunch
\n
14:30 &ndash\; 15:00"Initial Conditions Dependence and Initial Conditions Uncertainty in Climate Science"
\n
Charlotte Werndl\, Professor at the Department of Philosophy\, University of Salzburg\; Principal Investigator\, Cluster of Excellence &ldquo\;Knowledge in Crisis&rdquo\;
\n
15:00 &ndash\; 15:30"Climate Change Litigation and Legal Frameworks"
\n
Miriam Hofer\, University Assistant at the Department of Public Law and Political Science\, University of Graz
\n
15:30 &ndash\; 16:00 Coffee break
\n
16:00 &ndash\; 16:30"Reparative Obligations to Climate Refugees"
\n
Ali Emre Benli\, University Assistant at the Department of Philosophy\, University of Vienna
\n
16:30 &ndash\; 17:00"May the Oligarchs Tremble in the Face of Eco-Revolution!
