DESCRIPTION:
The philosophy department at Kansas State University is happy to invite course proposals for the 2027 North American Summer School in Logic\, Language\, and Information (NASSLLI) to be held June 21-25\, 2027 at Kansas State University in Manhattan\, Kansas in the beautiful Flint Hills region of Northeastern Kansas.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
NASSLLI courses are aimed at an interdisciplinary audience of advanced undergraduates\, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in mathematics\, computer science\, philosophy\, cognitive science\, linguistics\, and cognate fields. Courses are encouraged to cross boundaries between disciplines. The purpose of NASSLLI--accomplished both through the courses and from its collegial atmosphere and the community-building inherent in an intensive week-long summer school--is to introduce students and scholars in one area to tools\, results\, and techniques from another.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
Courses should aim to be accessible to the intended audience. Courses addressing interdisciplinary topics are particularly encouraged\, but courses focusing on single topic areas that would be accessible to students and scholars working in other fields are permissible as well.&nbsp\; &nbsp\; For more information about content\, it might be helpful to peruse recent iterations of NASSLLI\, available here: &nbsp\;
\n
\n
2025 at UW: https://nasslli25.shane.st/
\n
2022 at USC: https://ml-la.github.io/nasslli2022/
\n
2020 online due to COVID: https://www.brandeis.edu/nasslli2020/
\n
2018 at CMU: https://www.cmu.edu/nasslli2018/ &nbsp\;
\n
\n
Courses typically meet for approximately 90 minutes each day\, Monday through Friday\; in addition\, "bootcamp" tutorials are sometimes offered on the weekend before the main classes begin. &nbsp\;
\n
More details can be found below. We hope you will consider submitting a course proposal and distributing this call widely throughout relevant networks!
\n
Proposal Requirements
\n
Course proposals should be concise and include:&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
\n
Title &amp\; instructor(s)
\n
Outline of proposed course content (up to 500 words)
\n
Brief statement of teaching experience (especially in interdisciplinary settings)
\n
Anticipated travel costs\, including whether / to what extent this may be self-funded (see below)
\n
Any special equipment/requirements/accommodations that may be needed
\n
\n
Submit proposals using OpenReview via the following URL: https://openreview.net/group?id=NASSLLI/2027/Summer_School. (Please note that new profiles created without an institutional email will go through a moderation process that can take up to two weeks\; new profiles created with an institutional email will be activated automatically.) &nbsp\;
\n
Funding
\n
Depending on the total amount of funding\, we will be able to defray travel costs for instructors. We plan to offer accommodation for up to two instructors per course\, and\, contingent on overall funding\, we may be able to partially reimburse additional travel expenses for some instructors. We strongly encourage instructors to fund their own travel and accommodation if feasible\, which lets us direct more of our funding toward student scholarships and reimbursement for instructors without other funding sources. &nbsp\;
\n
We gratefully acknowledge Amazon Automated Reasoning for their support for NASSLLI.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
Important Dates
\n
\n
December 18\, 2026: Course proposals due
\n
Early January: Decision notifications sent &nbsp\;
\n
\n
Contact&nbsp\; &nbsp\;
\n
For questions relating to proposals\, proposal submission\, or local organization\, please email nasslli2027@gmail.com &nbsp\;
\n
More information to come on our website: https://salogan.github.io/nasslli2027/
