LOCATION:Pilsen\, Czech Republic
DESCRIPTION:<p>In many places of the world\, philosophy and science would not be quite the same without the thoughts developed and discussed in the Vienna Circle during the 1920ies and 1930ies. Even in this time\, however\, the activity of the circle was not limited to Austria but was partof the wider intellectual ferment characteristic of Central Europe in the late 19th and early 20th century. One of the major stages of these happenings was the young Czechoslovakian Republic. In Prague the manifesto of the circle\, The Scientific World Conception\, was presented to the public in 1929. At the same place\, on the Preliminary Conference of the International Congresses for the Unity of Science and the 8th International Congress of Philosophy in 1934 Logical Empiricism was intensively discussed by members\, fellow-travelers as well as critics of the circle. Czechoslovakia was a visiting\, working and living place for Bernard Bolzano\, Ernst Mach\, Albert Einstein\, Rudolf Carnap\, Philipp Frank\, and others. The conference intends to map the remarkable interconnections of the Czechoslovak environment and the work of the Vienna Circle on the philosophical\, scientific and artistic level.</p>
