Loyola is looking for conference discussants. Our conference on "Values and Identity" will be held in \;Rome 21st \; November.

Here you find the list of the points that will be discussed:

1. What is the meaning of values? What is the role of values within the definition of our own identity? \;How does their meaning change within a political context? Do politics and aesthetics affect our moral \;identity? What is the role of values within the state of nature?


2. According to Marcuse: Art cannot change the world\, but it can contribute to changing the \;consciousness and drives of the men and women who could change the world. Following Adorno's \;and Marcuse's arguments\, how does art accomplish its primary task of raising human consciousness \;against the reified world of commodities?


3. Nietzsche's philosophy was heavily influenced by Schopenhauer's theory\, yet Nietzsche completely \;disagreed on two fundamental issues in aesthetics: the role of disinterestedness in the aesthetic \;experience and the role of genius in artistic creations. On what grounds is this disagreement based? \;How was Nietzsche able to subvert Schopenhauer's position? Which perspective do you find more \;sustainable?
