DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Workshop:&nbsp\;The philosophy and psychology of afterlife beliefs</strong></p>\n<p>Speakers at this workshop will examine the psychological basis of beliefs in the afterlife\, and philosophical concepts of the afterlife. What do people\, and philosophers in particular\, think that happens after death? What can explain belief in Heaven and Hell? Is Heaven a place where nothing ever happens?&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The workshop will pay attention to afterlife beliefs in a cross-cultural perspective.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Speakers:&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Christina Van Dyke (Calvin College): "Heaven: Is it a place where nothing ever happens?"</p>\n<p>Azim Shariff (University of Oregon): "Why Afterlife Beliefs? A Cultural Evolutionary Approach"</p>\n<p>Claire White (California State University\, Northridge): "The Natural Foundations of Reincarnation"</p>\n<p>Helen De Cruz (VU University Amsterdam) &amp\; Johan De Smedt (Ghent University) "Influence of psychological dispositions on the philosophy of afterlife beliefs"</p>\n<p>Rachel Watson-Jones (University of Texas at Austin): "Afterlife concepts across cultures and development"</p>\n<p>This event is funded by a grant from the Immortality Project (Templeton Foundation\, via the University of California\, Riverside)</p>\n<p>The workshop will take place on 10 March\, from 9:20 AM to 5:30 PM</p>\n<p>There is free lunch and coffee/tea</p>\n<p><strong>Participation to this event is free\, but registration is required as the number of places is limited.
