DESCRIPTION:<p>The Quantitative Justice network aims to develop an open interdisciplinary&nbsp\;discussion on addressing legal and ethical issues through formal and&nbsp\;quantitative models and their computable implementations.<br><br>In particular\, this conference in Lisbon 22-24th May will focus on Inference&nbsp\;and Causality. It aims at investigating the extent to which formal and&nbsp\;quantitative models can be brought to bear on issues pertaining to balancing&nbsp\;interests and values of different individuals\, social groups and&nbsp\;institutions as well as to balancing different sources of information\, in&nbsp\;different legal\, political or social contexts.<br><br>Specific themes</p>\n<ol>\n<li>The emergence of the concepts of inference and causality in different&nbsp\;philosophical\, cultural\, religious and legal traditions</li>\n<li>Inference and&nbsp\;causality\, conceptionalism and justice in tort and criminal law.</li>\n<li>Inference or causality and the assessment of evidence</li>\n<li>Quantitative and&nbsp\;non-quantitative models of inference\, causality or&nbsp\;(distributive) justice and fairness</li>\n<li>Telelological arguments\, goals\, values and deontology in legal and moral&nbsp\;thinking</li>\n<li>Multicriteria decision-making and social choice</li>\n<li>Proportionality in distributive and corrective justice</li>\n<li>Balancing rights&nbsp\;and values in moral and legal reasoning</li>\n</ol>\n<br>\nThe conference takes place 22-24th May at University Lisbon\, Portugal.<br>Paper / abstract submission not later than: 15 April 2012<br>Notification: 30 April 2012<br>Submission of full paper and slides: 15 May 2012
