Recent work at the intersection of cognitive science\, philosophy of science\, and philosophy of biology has emphasized the importance of dynamical processes in cognition. A central idea in much of this work is that cognitive processes are 'emergent'\, and that understanding emergence is essential for understanding cognition. But emergence is a notoriously ambiguous concept\, which critics argue doesn't play any explanatory role. The aim of this workshop is to improve our understanding of the relationship between emergence\, dynamics\, and cognition\, along with closely related ideas about extended cognition\, niche construction\, and mechanistic explanation.
