DESCRIPTION:<p>Our responsibility and opportunity to respond to global poverty - Professor Peter Singer in conversation with Daniel Lewis-Toakley from Live Below the Line\, Australia's fastest-growing anti-poverty campaign.</p>\n<p>Recent events such as the KONY2012 film have people all over the world talking about the responsibility of those in the West to address global justice. At a political level\, deep engagement with Australia's responsibilities\, and discussion of our foreign aid contribution\, have not been forthcoming.&nbsp\;<br><br>In this forum\, renowned philosopher Peter Singer will discuss our individual and collective responsibility to address faraway injustices such as global poverty. Daniel Lewis-Toakley of the new anti-poverty campaign\, Live Below the Line\, will draw out Singer's views on the implications of recent events in this area.&nbsp\;<br><br>This event is part of Australia&rsquo\;s Role in the World\, a partnership initiative between The University of Melbourne\, the Australian Institute of International Affairs and UN Youth Australia aimed at engaging young people\, academia and the wider public in debate about major global issues.</p>\n<p>It is also the official campus launch of the 2012 Live Below the Line campaign\, and is proudly supported by The Life You Can Save\, Professor Singer's own anti-poverty initiative.</p>\n<p>www.australiasroleintheworld.org.au&nbsp\;</p>
