DESCRIPTION:
Abstract: While much thinking about science is still grounded in the substance-based ontology that has dominated scientific thinking at least since the C17th Scientific Revolution\, living things are in fact fundamentally processual.&nbsp\; Life processes\, moreover\, are complexly intertwined with one another\, often to an extent that makes distinguishing between individual processes difficult or even arbitrary.&nbsp\; In this talk I shall discuss the problems this ontological situation poses for individuating\, and also for classifying\, biological organisms.
\n
Comments: Veli-Pekka Parkkinen (Kent)
