DESCRIPTION:
Call for papers
\n
Cultura. International Journal of Philosophy of Culture and Axiology
\n
Peter Lang Verlag\, Frankfurt am Main\, Germany
\n
Deadline for paper submissions: August 31\, 2012
\n
No.2/2012 &ndash\; &ldquo\;Semiotics of World Cultures&rdquo\;
\n
This thematic issue seeks to examine semiotic practices specific to cultures and communities. It contemplates cultural communication as a process where biophysical\, technological\, and socio-cultural factors interact\, and through which institutionalized technological media produce\, transform and circulate sign-representations. The volume seeks to confront elements traditionally considered &lsquo\;essential&rsquo\; and &lsquo\;universal&rsquo\;\, and thus\, &lsquo\;fixed&rsquo\; (i.e. human perceptual modes)\, with the continuously changing patterns of cultural and technological manifestations. It proposes a revision of the ontology of perception and of the emergence of human communicative potential by relating neuroscientific research and socio-contructivist understandings of human physical development\, and integrating these findings with the evolving nature of the technical media that social beings use to communicate at a distance.
\n
The volume will explore the semiotic resources used in specific institutional and social contexts at a global level\, and help unveil how they reflect and conceal specific interests\, power relations and communicative strategies that change over time for various reasons\, among them economic interests and changing technologies. The issue welcomes papers on discourse analysis\, multimedia analysis\, cultural anthropology\, political sociology\, intersubjective perspectives to neuroscience\, etc.\, and aims at the inclusion of the widest possible number of world cultures.
\n
For additional information regarding this call for papers\, please contact the Guest Editor of this issue: Prof. Dr. Asunci&oacute\;n L&oacute\;pez-Varela Azc&aacute\;rate\, Universidad Complutense de Madrid\, Spain\, alopezva@filol.ucm.es
\n
Submissions can be made via email at journal.axiology@yahoo.com or using the Guest Editor&rsquo\;s address for the special numbers.
\n
The editorial board encourages the submission of manuscripts based on original research that are judged to make a novel and important contribution to understanding the values and cultural phenomena in the contemporary world.
